Real Wedding: Rachel and Mat

February 4, 2022 by Stephanie Maxwell Newton

We’re in love with the Valentine’s Day tones of Rachel and Mat Crispell’s real wedding! While the two were married on New Year’s Eve, the red and pink palette of their wedding day florals and the soft blush gowns donned by the bridal party are perfect for this time of year. Read on to learn how Rachel and Mat incorporated an air of romance and meaningful military traditions into their big day.

“The military has always been an integral part of Mat’s and mine relationship as we met and fell in love at the United States Naval Academy,” Rachel says. Mat is currently a First Lieutenant serving as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps, and Rachel is an Ensign in the Navy attending the military’s medical school, Uniformed Services University. Because of this shared history and career, military traditions—such as cutting the cake with a saber and having Mat and his groomsmen wear their military uniforms—was a natural choice for the couple. “Mat’s parents also met at the Naval Academy and had a military wedding less than a week after they graduated. We have followed in their footsteps in many ways so far, and we were happy to continue the family traditions in our wedding,” Rachel says….

Frida Kahlo-inspired Wedding Design

December 7, 2021 by Stephanie Maxwell Newton

When a local caterer came to photographer Jazmin Andrade about creating a wedding editorial inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, Jazmin was immediately drawn in. Karla Putts, owner of Carmelita Catering Co., led the planning and design of the shoot while also providing authentic Mexican dishes. “Karla really worked hard to incorporate things the Hispanic community would recognize, like la lotería, Mexican peanuts, Jarritos, and butterflies like the ones Frida Kahlo would use in her art,” Jazmin said. Read on to see photos of the beautiful end result and learn more details about the vendors who brought it to life.

50 Years of Fine Jewelry: Q&A with Sissy’s Log Cabin

July 22, 2020 by Stephanie Maxwell Newton

With locations in Pine Bluff, Little Rock, Jonesboro, Conway, and Memphis, Sissy’s Log Cabin is known throughout the state (and beyond!) for its reputation in fine jewelry and customer service. Here, we catch up with CEO and Graduate Gemologist Bill Jones on the history and growth of his family’s business. | Sponsored Content

Weddings in Arkansas: Let’s start with some of the history behind Sissy’s Log Cabin. How did this Arkansas icon get its start?

Bill Jones: In 1970, my mom, Sissy Jones, a home decorator with a flair for antiques, founded Sissy’s Log Cabin in Pine Bluff. She quickly outgrew the home office where her antique business began and was forced to search for a standalone store of her own. While driving down Highway 79 in Pine Bluff, she noticed a log cabin for sale, just big enough to accommodate her growing business. She began renting the cabin for $50 a month and word spread quickly throughout Arkansas. People started talking about their visits to “Sissy’s Log Cabin,” and the rest is history.

How to Have a Socially Distanced Wedding

June 24, 2020 by Stephanie Maxwell Newton

When the first cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas were announced, couples around the state with spring and summer wedding dates were faced with a decision: Do we postpone our wedding? Or change our plans? While some couples have opted to reschedule their big days, others have moved forward with smaller, socially distanced celebrations—including all of the festivities leading up to special day.

To help navigate this new normal, we turned to Chris Norwood of Tipton & Hurst for ideas on re-envisioning your big day as a smaller, safer celebration. Read on for six suggestions on how to party on instead of postpone.

Lovesick Wedding Festival Isn’t Your Typical Wedding Show

August 19, 2019 by Stephanie Maxwell Newton

April Walsh of Freckled Fox Photography, along with an expansive list of Arkansas wedding vendors, are hosting a wedding festival that is anything but traditional or been-there, done-that. Read below for a Q&A with the woman behind it all on what you need to know about the event this weekend at Kindred Barn in Northwest Arkansas.

Weddings in AR: In your words, how would you describe Lovesick Wedding Festival?

April Walsh, Freckled Fox Photography: Lovesick is going to be a wedding festival showcasing talented local vendors who focus on fun, modern wedding design. It’ll make finding a creative team convenient for hip, fun couples with none of the traditional big-box wedding show feeling. Every booth and styled seating area will feel interactive and be full of modern design ideas. The space will feel like a fun summer party or festival, with local music, snacks and beverages, and every booth feels almost like a styled shoot. The event will be free to attend. …

Real Wedding: Riki & Brent

December 13, 2018 by Stephanie Maxwell Newton

Riki + Brent
Jonesboro // June 3, 2017

We’re happy to share Riki Sisk and Brent Taylor’s wedding on the blog today! These two were married at Harmony Gardens in Jonesboro. Read on for Riki’s inspirations, advice, and favorite moments throughout the day, plus beautiful moments captured by photographer Courtney Hollowell of CoHo Creative.

“I chose champagne as my wedding color when I was 14! I saw it in a bridal store when I was shopping for a bridesmaids dress for my cousin’s wedding. I loved how timeless and elegant it seemed. When it actually came time to plan my wedding, I tossed around some other trendy colors, but I kept thinking about how those colors might clash with the flowers planted in the gardens at my venue—since my wedding was a year away, it was hard to know what they’d have planted at the time. My bridesmaids and I went to David’s Bridal and tried on dresses, and I just kept coming back to champagne. It ended up being perfect!”
