Say “yes” to bright colors and outside-the-box accents for a wedding like no other
With designers working on the West Coast as well as in Utah, the Northeast, and Arkansas, Brooke Baker of White Sage Events is building a wedding planning empire. Having moved to Arkansas in 2020 to be closer to family, she established a territory here in the South, bringing her California ethos with her. “We have a really high focus on design and bringing in more unique and modern pieces. I’m constantly pushing the envelope and asking for new things,” she says.
For this styled shoot, she teamed up with the owners of Legacy Acres for a bright and colorful contemporary wedding scene. A colorblocked palette of orange and pink, mix of dried and fresh florals, and acrylic accents bring in the nontraditional flair Brooke imagines a modern bride might seek. “I think the foundation of the design is someone who’s looking to be unique,” she says. “She’s really looking for something different than the everyday.”
To help bring the scene to life, Brooke called on wedding vendors she could trust to go bold. “I am really intentional in selecting our collaborators so that I can give them their own creative freedom,” she says. For example, for floral design and catering, she gave those respective vendors a color palette and let them select the details. Even the sleek fashion selections play into the modern feel of the setting, creating an overall aesthetic that’s as effortlessly chic as it is inspiring.
For flower arrangements, Brooke gave floral design company Arloh Flora free rein based on the pink and orange palette. Arrangements of roses and painted baby’s breath adorn the tabletop and aisle, and a hanging installation of dried, painted florals brings drama over the table. “She really exceeded expectations,” Brooke says.
Local artist Isabelle Gadberry personalized Champagne bottles to suit the scene’s motifs, making for a sentimental keepsake.
For the day’s menu, Carmelita Catering Co. let the palette inspire the food selections—particularly the beet ravioli, which has a pleasingly deep pink hue. Mini herbed cheese toasts, lemon basil scallops, and steak were also on the menu. “I told her to feel free to play with garnish and texture,” Brooke says. “I feel like it brings a lot of visual interest to the shoot.”
On the cake, layers of icing echo motifs in the stationery and napkins, while painted baby’s breath adorning the cake and in the acrylic box below give the confection an artful presentation.
