Daniel + Garrit
Fayetteville // 6.17.23
Though Daniel Keeley and Garrit Johnson had talked about marriage in the three years they dated, Garrit was still completely taken by surprise when Daniel popped the question on a trip to Key West, Florida. “I turned around and he was down on one knee. I was in disbelief and kept asking if he was for real,” Garrit says. “Of course, the answer was easy.” “Our friend took pictures, and the whole restaurant was applauding when we came back from the pier,” Daniel adds.
When they envisioned their big day, the couple’s first thought was to have a destination wedding in the special place where they got engaged. But as the guest list grew, they decided to wed somewhere closer to home. The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks became the obvious choice. “Since I’m a garden designer, it seemed perfect, and we both felt silly for not having thought of it sooner,” Daniel says. They worked with wedding designer Amanda Reed to create the garden party of their dreams: a casual, comfortable atmosphere with good music, great drinks, and a sophisticated air.
After exchanging vows under the garden’s grand arbor, the couple exited to a shower of rose petals, then enjoyed cocktails and a private walk before joining their guests for a reception under a giant sailcloth tent. Daniel and Garrit’s first dance was a mash-up of two versions of “I Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” which kicked off a night of dancing to Memphis band The Bouffants. “Our wedding was a great encapsulation of us: the music, the camaraderie, the drinks—which were delicious. It was perfect in a way that we are perfect together,” Daniel says. The couple are at home in Fayetteville and will enjoy a delayed honeymoon to Paris in 2024.
In the Garden
Pink and navy tablecloths played off the colors of the grooms’ suits, while thistle and roses brought the palette into the floral design. Tanarah Luxe Floral also worked maroon and burgundy hues, some of Garrit’s favorites, into the arrangements. “We wanted it to fit the garden setting, and we trusted Tanarah to make it all a reality,” Daniel says.
Shelby Lynn’s Cake Shoppe created an artful marbled confection with four different flavors for guests to taste.
Garrit’s Advice for Couples
“Have fun and enjoy yourself! Don’t get too stressed—a wedding planner helps immensely. The wedding is about you and your partner, so don’t feel tied down to traditions you don’t feel are necessary.”
